The Forestry Section of the Public Services Department has been managing Portland’s shade and ornamental trees since the mid-1800’s. Our municipal community forest consists of thousands of street-trees, along over 300 miles of public roadways on the mainland and our island communities on Peaks, Little Diamond, Great Diamond and Cliff Islands. We also maintain park & public grounds trees in our city parks and public grounds. Trees add great value to our community making Portland a better place to live, work and visit.

Portland, Maine has received the ‘Tree City USA’ award from the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1978.
